Random Brazilian Fact: US Goods are taxed like crazy in Brazil . . . well some items are.
Goods made in one country and sold in another are subject to import tax also known as duty or tariff. I’m not a shoe person but while walking through the mall in Brazil I immediately noticed the prices of shoes. Below are photos of shoes with prices I’ve started with the US dollar conversion. In many cases you will see two prices.
The lesser of the two prices is the payment/ layaway payment. For big ticket items Brazilian stores will split the cost in 5 or 10 payments.
Currently the currency conversion rate for 1 U.S. dollar to 2.39 to Brazilian Real.
